LACMA:Muse Artwalk 2010 Imagery

I recently got my first commission (!) through a friend at LACMA to design the ad for their upcoming ArtWalk event next month.

I am extremely grateful to Sam Gregg, The LACMA folks, and Cristiana Couceiro (For her always inspiring work) for contributing in some way to this project.

Here are some of the images I have been working with. Once the final is chosen and printed I'll show you all that. How Exciting!

Summer Lovin' Torture Party: Sorrow

The First song I fell in love with. The "Don't leave my hyper heart on the water" lyric, is just fantastic and heavily inspired the approach to image making here. This is a moody song, even in a catalog of moody songs for The National. Hope you enjoy it folks.

Summer Lovin' Torture Party: Lemonworld

Here is number 4 of this little set. "Lemonworld" holds a special place in my heart. The music , the lyrics...the story behind the song are all just fantastic. The lemon is lopsided on purpose. The Title of this series is from one of my favorite lyrics in this song and according to a few interviews a possible album title early on.

I must say I owe specific acknowledgments for this one to Cristiana Couceiro...whose work is utterly beautiful and inspiring

Cheers.

Barbara Ana Gomez | Illustrated Music

I have recently become part of The National's Forum and I came across this Barbara Ana Gomez' work. I really love the idea and some of them are just damn smart. The above is for a song I have yet to hear by Broken Records.

Summer Lovin' Torture Party: Bloodbuzz Ohio

Here we have number 3…Bloodbuzz Ohio, The first single off "High Violet". I wanted to make this one a little darker because it feels a lot different than other stuff they have done...It seems to use a different palette all-together. Hope you guys like it. The imagery is pretty obvious...Kudos to those that know what city that is.

Summer Lovin' Torture Party: Little Faith

Here is number two of this image series I'm making for The National's "High Violet". Hope you like it and get the little lyrical symbols. Listen to The National Please. Thanks.

Road of Golden Dust Alternate

This is just another attempt at photoshopping my friend/co-worker. Fox ears and an owl this time.

Summer Lovin' Torture Party: Runaway

As most of the Internet knows, I absolutely love The National. The new record "High Violet" has been on repeat for weeks. I have the vinyl, the cd, the 7". It's getting to be a problem. So naturally I am need a creative outlet for that obsession.

This is going to be a collection of 11 images that corresponds to a song on the record.

National Fans know what the title of the series is all about. Am I right?

EXCITING probably!

Fake Records

These were made for a musical project of an extremely talented friend and musical collaborator named Andrew Manley. The record "Out of the Ground" does not exist...but is simply quoted from something he said once. Hopefully we will get to make and print something official soon!

Summer Things

Summer is a time of laziness...well at least till my internships are in full swing. This little image was just me exploring image making in the way Mr. Mark Weaver does, with vintage photographs and geometric forms. It's really actually quite enjoyable...and my photoshopping is getting better by the day. Obviously this is very close to his style...but I hope to integrate my own vibe as I experiement more.
